Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about how ClearlyFair works, what it costs, and how your information is handled.
Is ClearlyFair a law firm or a lawyer?
No. ClearlyFair is a self-help tool that helps you write a letter. It is not a law firm, it is not your attorney, and it does not provide legal advice. You review the letter, fill in your details, and send it yourself. For legal advice about your specific situation, talk to a licensed attorney.
Will this actually lower my bill?
No tool, and no person, can promise your bill will go down, and you should be cautious of anyone who guarantees a result. What ClearlyFair does is help you make the clearest, best-supported request your situation allows, using strategies that hospitals and billing departments respond to. Making the ask the right way is what gives you the best chance.
What do I actually get for $19?
A complete, ready-to-send negotiation letter built around your specific bill, plus a step-by-step checklist for sending it and following up. You fill in your personal details right in your browser, then copy or print the finished letter.
Is my information safe?
Yes. Privacy is built into how this works. You do not need an account. The bill details you enter are automatically deleted within 7 days. And the personal details you type into your letter (name, address, account number) are filled in inside your browser and never reach our servers at all. See our privacy page for the full picture.
How is this different from a free template I can find online?
A generic template is a fine starting point, but the right letter depends on your situation: whether you are insured, self-pay, or were denied; whether there is a billing error; whether you might qualify for financial assistance. ClearlyFair chooses the two or three angles that actually fit your bill and arranges them the way a billing office takes seriously.
How is this different from services like Goodbill or Resolve?
Those services negotiate for you and take a percentage of whatever they save, and some charge an upfront deposit. ClearlyFair is a flat $19, one time, with no cut of your savings. You handle the sending yourself and keep 100% of any reduction, which fits smaller bills and people who want to stay in control. We break down all the options in our cost comparison post.
Do I have to pay before I see anything?
No. You get a free assessment of your strongest negotiation angles first, before paying for anything. You can also see a real example letter to know exactly what the paid version looks like.
What if it is not useful? Can I get a refund?
Yes. If the letter is not useful, email support@clearlyfair.com within 7 days for a full refund, no questions asked.
What kinds of bills does this work for?
Hospital, emergency room, clinic, lab, and imaging bills, whether you are insured, uninsured or self-pay, or were denied by insurance. It is designed for U.S. medical bills.
Do I need an account or to download anything?
No account, no downloads, no subscription. You answer a few questions in your browser and get your letter.
How fast is it?
The free assessment is instant. After payment, your letter is generated right away and shown on screen, and we also email you a link to it.
Who is behind ClearlyFair?
A real person (Jason), not a faceless company. If you email support, a human answers. The contact address is in the site footer.
